Tableau Terminology
Tableau is a data visualization tool, It has numerous unique terms and definitions. Let us talk on some of them.

Tableau Work Space:

To start our overview of the basics, let us consider the terminology and related definitions of assets that make up the Tableau workspace.

Tableau Workspace

Data Pane or Data Window : All data sources contain fields. In Tableau, these fields show up in the Data sheet which you find on the far left. For social information sources, the fields are controlled by the segments of a table or view. Each field contains a one of a kind characteristic of the information, for example, client name, donations total , appeal and so on.

The Data pane organizes fields into different areas:

Dimensions: Dimensions commonly deliver headers when added to the rows or column shelves in the view. Of course, Tableau treats any field containing subjective, straight out data as a measurement. This includes, for example, any field with text or dates values. However in relation to the data sources , the actual definition of dimension is  slightly more complex . A dimension is a field that can be viewed as an independent variable.

Measures: Measure is a function of other dimensions placed the worksheet. For example, you may compute the Sum of Donations for each "State". In this case , the Donation field is acting  as a measure since you need to total the field for each state. In any case, measures could also bring  a non-numeric outcome. For example, you may make a calculated measure called "donation Rating" that outcomes in "Great" if gifts are great and "Awful"  if not . For this situation the "Donation Rating " field goes acts as a measure despite the fact that it delivers a non-numeric outcome. It is viewed as a measure since it is an function of the measurements in the view.

Pills: When you drag a Dimension or Measure from the Data Pane to the Columns or Rows rack, it appears as a "Pill" on that rack.  It's known as a pill since it would appear that a little capsule. Once  you plop the pill on the shelf , the data are then represented to as Marks in the primary Window. There are two types  of pills: green and blue. Blue means discrete. Green means continuous . For instance, Region would be discrete since we're discussing one of a modest bunch of qualities. Furthermore, the Sum of Donations would be a case of a consistent pill since the value can be any number long a continuum.
